Macau, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 - Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s corporate social responsibility vision focuses on making a difference in people’s lives, as well as giving back to the community. One of Melco’s traditions before mid-autumn festival is for employees to donate their mooncakes given by the Company to the Macau community. This year, over 100 Melco Volunteers, in collaboration with The Women's General Association of Macau and General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau, took one step further and organized a fun day for the elderly. Young children from a local primary school were also invited to show love and care to the elderly at the season of reunion.
Over 100 elderly, accompanied by another 100 primary students, gathered at Fu Luen School. After the mini magic show performed by a Melco volunteer, the troop of The House of Dancing Water marched in and surprised the group with a spectacular performance and parade. The volunteers and students then distributed mooncakes to the elderly and enjoyed afternoon tea with them.
Melco’s Chairman and CEO Mr. Lawrence Ho said at the event, “Volunteerism is a Melco culture, all our employees organize and participate in meaningful events like this regularly. Mid-Autumn is a celebration of great harvest and family reunions, and we wish to extend and share our love and care to the community where our colleagues belong. At Melco, we treat our employees as our extended family, which is why we give mooncakes to our employees every year. I am very pleased to learn that many of them donate these mooncake to the community.”
Ms. Tina Ho, President of The Women's General Association of Macau said, “In addition to developing tourism, Melco has also been focused on its corporate social responsibility and cared for the disadvantaged. Today's event is very meaningful. Senior citizens have contributed greatly to the development of Macau, many of them are very much in need of our love and care. For the sake of our children, we need a harmonious society. I hope today’s event would bring the elderly a joyous mid-autumn festival.”
After the event, a team of Melco’s management, including Mr. Lawrence Ho, visited a residential building in Border Gate, they brought the family mooncakes and fruits, while the Company’s Property Services team helped the family repair damages from Typhoon Hato.
The Melco Volunteer team set out to elderly homes, children center, and various associations today to distribute mooncakes donated by employees to under-privileged families. This year, a total of 1,400 boxes of mooncake were donated from Melco employees.
