Macau, Wednesday January 10, 2018 – The most formidable beasts ever to roam the Earth are roaring into life at Studio City as the resort brings some of the wildest creatures in history to Macau. From January 10 to April 15, 2018, ‘The Dinosaur Hunt’ will see Studio City transformed into a prehistoric world filled with highly realistic dinosaurs, transporting guests millions of years back in time.
Created by experiential exhibition curators and designers Globe Creative, and Dr. Michael Pittman, a dinosaur palaeontologist from the University of Hong Kong as scientific adviser, The Dinosaur Hunt allows guests to experience the incredible beasts from Northern China and other parts of the world, exhibiting 24 life-size and startlingly realistic dinosaur recreations throughout the resort. Among the creatures on show are the terrifying Deinonychus, with its large and curving razor-sharp claws that could inflict fatal wounds on its prey; the deadly Tarbosaurus, the Asian cousin of the ferocious T.rex, which had teeth the size of steak-knives and, grew up to 10 meters tall, was an apex predator and was one of the fiercest dinosaurs of all; and the long-necked Brachiosaurus, a massive yet gentle plant-eating giant that grew 7.5 meters tall.
Alongside the exhibition, visitors will also get the chance to discover a Velociraptor hatchery and witness these baby dinosaurs who when they grow up will become fierce predators that are as quick and vicious as they are lethal.
Among the other key highlights of the exhibition are a series of up-close encounters with dinosaurs at the state-of-the-art Augmented Reality (AR) stations along the Boulevard. At Times Square, visitors can enjoy the Dino Escape green-screen experience where they are flown over a prehistoric landscape as they try to escape from a horde of pursuing dinosaurs. Starting from February, the Flesh-on-Bones station will allow visitors through AR, to experience a giant Tarbosaurus skeleton transform into a fully fleshed dinosaur fighting off two aggressive and deadly Deinonychus. Flying with Dinos, a Virtual Reality (VR) hang-glider flight that brings Studio City guests face to face with a hungry T.rex trying to hunt down its prey, will also be launched in February.
Mr. David Sisk, Property President of Studio City, said, “Studio City is renowned for bringing the biggest, boldest and most exciting attractions to Macau, and with the cutting-edge AR experiences at The Dinosaur Hunt we are set to give our guests a visit to remember. Not only are we taking interactive entertainment to a whole new and exhilarating level with these unique attractions, but we are also offering our guests the exclusive opportunity to travel back in time to experience these phenomenal creatures.”
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macau Government Tourism Office, said, “Macau today has a large and ever-growing selection of first-class entertainment and dining options, and The Dinosaur Hunt at Studio City is the latest world-class draw set to delight visitors to the city. It is our goal to transform Macau into a World Center of Tourism and Leisure, and innovative attractions such as The Dinosaur Hunt are hugely important in helping us make this aim a reality.”
Celebrity Wong Cho Lam, who was invited to participate in a film in which he discovers the dinosaurs in Chengdu and brings them to Macau, said at the launch event today, “I am thrilled to be part of this incredible project at Studio City. The Dinosaur Hunt is a dream come true for anyone who has ever wondered what dinosaurs were really like – and what happens when they come alive! ”
